The Bards

The third people the player meets are the Bards. They value art, beauty, and music, with their most important symbol being the symbol for "Beauty":

Grammar

The Bards' language uses OSV word order, in contrast to most of the other languages in Chants of Sennaar. That means that the object is the first part of the sentence, so "I love music" would be phrased "Music, I love". To express plural form, a suffix is added behind the relevant subject or object.

Example:

" " "Beauty, bard plural like" -> "Beauty, bards like" -> "Bards like beauty"

The Bards' language is the only language in the tower with the ability to form questions. This is done by adding the question symbol at the beginning and end of a sentence. The symbol for "not" functions in the same way, and to make a sentence negative, the "not" symbol is placed at the beginning and end of the relevant sentence.

Examples:

" "-> "Question bard, you be question" -> "Bard, you be?" -> "Are you a bard?"
" " -> "Not monster plural, I like not" -> "Monsters, I like not" -> "I don't like monsters"

Glyphs

The script of the Bards' language is likely inspired by the Devanagari script . The script feautures a shirorekha, a line that runs through the sentence.
